About

My name is John and I am a baseball history nerd, US Navy veteran, married father of 3 and Kentucky native. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, a love for all things baseball old and new was instilled upon me from a young age. My ties to the Negro Baseball Leagues are purely superficial. The more I read the stories of this time in American history, the more awestruck I am at the perseverance, innovation, and pure joy that was present. This site is just one attempt to capture a small snapshot of those days through the research and documentation of what was worn between the lines.

The Process

The research process is a combination of analyzing old photos, combing through newspapers, and looking up rosters. Several difficulties compound the process. Lack of color information, poor image quality/grainy newspaper scans, and partial images mean that I have to make some educated guesses. I strive for accuracy however, and gladly welcome any and all feedback, suggestions, or corrections. You can contact me here or email me at contact@nlbuniforms.com.

Credits

I'd be remiss if I didn't properly give credit to those whom my work is inspired by and heavily reliant on. The template for the uniform is based primarily on the freely available work of user rsaline on the sportslogos.net forums. Sportslogos.net is an incredible resource for logos and uniform information, in fact THE supreme source. Some minor elements of my work come directly from there (see disclaimer below). The Seamheads database is an equally comprehensive and amazing website that provides accurate rosters and lineups of major Negro League teams, and allows me to easily identify players and match them with photos. The works of authors and historians such as Phil Dixon also are a key resource in my quest. Last but ABSOLUTELY not least, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and Center for Negro League Baseball Research do so much to keep the game alive and none of the amateur research I do could be possible without them.
